In 1994, Master Lian Sheng Xu at the invitations of various institutes and associations in Canada and U.S.A. gave workshops and lectures on the benefits of practising Xingyi Baguazhang Wushu and Qigong.  Taking this opportunity, he went to Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, and other major cities to find out the impact of Chinese Wushu (Martial Arts) in North America.  Having meetings and discussions with numerous wushu masters and colleagues, they drew up a plan on how to propagate Chinese Wushu to the world.  They set up an institute “International Institute of Xingyi Baguazhang” to proceed with the great endeavour of Master Xu.

In 1995, International Institute of Xingyi Baguazhang (“the Institute”) was incorporated as a non-profit organization under the Societies Act in Alberta, Canada with its headquarter situate at Calgary, Alberta. The aim objective of the Institute is to promote a better understanding of Chinese culture and sport through the education and advancement of Xingyi Baguazhang, Xingyi Bagua Tai Chi Chuan and all styles of Xingyi Baguazhang wushu in order to encourage and promote health improvement for people of all ages.

The Institute runs Xingyi Baguazhang Wushu Series DVD Distance Learning Course; workshops and seminars, train instructors, organize worldwide wushu conferences and competitions. Besides, the Institute also serves as a link for its members worldwide.

The highest authority of the Institute is the Board of Committees consists of president, chairperson, treasurer, and committee members from the honorary team, instructor’s team, wushu research team, editorial team, and members’ liaison team.  They work together with an aim to propagate Xingyi Baguazhang Wushu.

Members have the privileges to publish their articles on their experience in the practice and discussions on other forms of wushu practice on the Institute’s website or magazine, attend workshops, seminars, and conferences organized by the Institute.  For those who are enthusiastic in propagating Xingyi Baguazhang Wushu, the Institute may offer them to join as administrators or instructors at branches of the Institute.

    December 26, 1986 marked the establishment of Shanghai Xingyi Baguazhang Institute and the instructors’ graduation ceremony. Master Xu announced the commencement of the 2nd Distance Learning Course of Xingyi Baguazhang at the ceremony. Guests of Honour included Chiefs from Sports Committee, Shanghai; renowned wushu masters and representatives from other provinces
     
 
  October 21, 1984 Master Xu announced the commencement of tuition centre of Xingyi Baguazhang at Weifang City, Shangdong Province at the opening ceremony. Guests of Honour included Chief of Sports Committee, Weifang City and other government officials.     December 26, 1985 marked the establishment of Shanghai Xingyi Baguazhang Institute. Over 200 congratulations banners, 700 telegrams and thousands letters were received.
